Lance Corporal James William Hall

 

The background of this North Irish Horseman is unknown at present, other than that he was born in 1892.

James William Hall enlisted in the North Irish Horse on 16 October 1914 (No.1318).

In the first half of 1915 he embarked for England with F Squadron, where they awaited orders for France. On 12 July, however, Hall was one of about two dozen men of the squadron who volunteered for service as Military Mounted Police with the 54th (East Anglian) Division, which was under orders to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force. They sailed from Devonport on HMT Manitou on 29 July 1915, joining the landing at Suvla Bay between 10 and 16 August.

At some point that year or early in 1916 Hall became ill. He was evacuated to the UK and diagnosed as suffering from heart disease (mitral). On 25 September 1916 he was discharged as being no longer physically fit for military service (Paragraph 392 xvi King's Regulations) and granted a part pension.

At some time after his discharge he lived at 62 Roden Terrace, Limestone Road, Belfast.
